    Description

    CANAANITE. Early Bronze Age, circa 3500-3000 BC. Large basalt basin with four loop handles. Carved from a single block of gray basalt, stretching 12.75 inches (32.4 cm) across the handles, the mouth 11 inches (13 cm) across, 3.75 inches (9.5 cm) high, with four integral loop handles. Probably a mortar for grinding or a washing basin. Minor chipping around rim, otherwise intact and quite massive. See Chronicles Of The Land (Israel Museum, 2013) page 40, plate 5 for a very similar example from the Beth Shean Valley.
