    Description

    ANCIENT NEAR EAST. Persian period, circa 586-333 BCE. Group of three perfume alabastrons. Each carved from a single piece of white alabaster and used as containers for perfumes or unguents. Sizes are 6 inches (15.2 cm), 5 inches (12.7 cm), and just under 4 inches (10 cm) in length, the first two of elongated ovoid form, the last somewhat more bulbous with a wide, flaring mouth. Minor surfaces losses, otherwise intact. Each with custom Lucite stand.

    Alabaster vessels originated in Egypt and quickly spread throughout the Mediterranean world, becoming popular luxury items in Greece and Persia.
