    Wells Fargo Marked Smith & Wesson First Model Schofield Single Action Revolver. Serial no. 1044, .45 caliber, 5-inch barrel. Blued finish. Right side of barrel with 1873 patent mark overstamped with: W.F. & CO'S EX. 1044. Left side of barrel with 2-line patent mark, last date 1871. Butt is stamped 1044 and U[S worn off]. Walnut grips. Condition: Good. Traces of blue in protected areas. The balance a pleasing, mostly smooth gray-brown patina with moderate to fine pitting at muzzle and left side of barrel. Barrel shortened during Wells Fargo period of use. Latch and frame screws with tool marks. Grips good with moderate handling wear. Period repair to inside of left grip panel. Action crisp.
