U.S. Colt Single Action Army Revolver. Serial no. 114559, .45 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel marked: P/D.F.C. on bottom near cylinder pin. Gripstrap and frame with "G" inspector stamps. Left side of frame lacking U.S. markings but having three-line patent dates and "K" inspector stamp. Cylinder with "P" inspector stamp. Varnished walnut grips with no inspector's cartouche. Sold with Colt factory letter stating that this revolver was shipped to Kennedy & Curtis, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 6, 1888. It was shipped with blue finish, stocks not mentioned,in a shipment of 10 guns. According to consignor, John Kopec was of the opinion that this could possibly be a condemned gun or an overrun. There is no "C" stamp for condemned but an overrun is a likely possibility. This serial number is in the range of those examples sent to the New York Militia.
Condition: Good. Metal with mottled grey-brown age patina with patches of pitting on cylinder and frame. Grips retaining approximately 60-70% varnish with scattered flaking and wear. Chips to toes of grips. Action crisp. Bore good.
