Superb 1879-delivered Colt Single Action Army Revolver, Attributed to a New Mexico Trading Post Agent. Serial number 40710, 7½" barrel. Original nickel finish is 98% present, and the gun appears to have had minimal use. Tight, crisp action. Beautiful overall engraving is not factory, but appears to have been done early on. Carved antler grips are replacements. According to the Colt factory letter (included), this gun was shipped July 22, 1879, one of a shipment of 400 to Wexwell & Degress, who had locations in both New York and Mexico City.

The gun is accompanied, as purchased by consignor, by an 1878-dated carte de visite photo of Emerson Hayes, identified as "agent of Trading Post Northwest Territory." No further documentation of ownership is available, but in any event this is a beautifully engraved Colt in exceptional condition.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
