    Description

    Early Four-Screw.

U.S. Colt Model 1860 Army Percussion Revolver.
Serial no. 7827 [frame, barrel, cylinder, butt and triggerguard, small "s" on breech], .44 caliber, 8-inch round barrel. Blued finish with case-hardened frame. One-piece walnut grip with cartouche ADK for Inspector A.D. King. According to research, King was an ordnance inspector active during the Civil War. We find him active from 1850-65. Brass triggerguard and frontstrap. Early 4 screw, second year of production, cut recoil shield and cut for shoulder stock configuration. Top of barrel reads ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA. Left side of frame with COLTS / PATENT. According to Flayderman's, "Model 1860 Army Revolvers were in production from 1860 through 1873 with about 200,500 made. Serial numbers reached about 156,00 by December, 1865 and the end of the Civil War." Flayderman's also note; "Frames of the four screw type until about serial range 50000, at which point the fourth screw was dropped. Most of the production sold to the U.S. Government, and marked with inspector stampings on the grips and various metal parts."

Condition: Fine to excellent. Retaining 80-90% finish with scattered surface wear/spots to top of barrel. Some areas around cylinder with browning present. A few handling marks to cylinder. Case-hardening on metal is excellent with fine areas of handling and spotting. Fine scratches present. Brass parts with age patina, some wear and loses to backstrap. The one-piece grip is very good to fine with storage and handling wear, good cartouche marking. Apart from top of barrel wear, the overall appearance of this 1860 Army is incredible for being issued in 1861. Action good. Bore good.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
