    Description

    Rare Personalized U.S. Colt First Model Dragoon Percussion Revolver. Serial no. 7845 [correct, larger style numerals], .44 caliber, 7 1/2-inch part round/part octagonal barrel with correct single-line New York address reading left to right, from muzzle to breech. 7-groove rifling. Numbered arbor and case-hardened lever [matching numbers]. Case-hardened hammer and frame. Wedge numbered 5119. Cylinder with oval stops and matching serial number. Cylinder stamped with what appears to be an: O on back side, between two chambers. Left side of frame marked: COLT'S PATENT/U.S. and the letter B. Hammer marked on the right side with the letter H. Brass triggerguard and gripstrap. Triggerguard marked K to the right of the front screw. Backstrap stamped at top with a letter N and lower with crude, faint, serifed letter stamps reading: SAM. COX. Butt stamped with similar fonts: FT. WORTH/1863 [individual stamped letters and numerals]. Left side of front interior gripstrap stamped with letter T [William Tuller] . One-piece walnut grips, the cartouche worn away. Total production of the first model was about 7000. For information on this model Colt, see The Book of Colt Firearms by R.L. Wilson, pages 85-86. Condition: Good, used condition, or very good for this model Colt. Metal showing a smooth, light polished grey patina with the cylinder scene worn away completely [numbers are faint but present] Correctly numbered triggerguard and gripstrap assembly with light brass patina, the military marked specimens issued in unfinished brass, with no silver plating. Stampings on backstrap and butt as described but showing wear and thinning. Grips showing wear and minor shrinkage with cartouche completely worn away. Action very good. Bore showing strong rifling but also scattered wear and pitting.
