Description
Colt Third Model Dragoon Revolver.
Serial no. 14812 [barrel, frame, triggerguard, loading lever,
cylinder, wedge and butt], .44 caliber, 7 1/2-inch octagonal and
round barrel with fixed front sight. Blued finish. Case-hardened
frame, hammer and lever. Top of barrel marked: ADDRESS SAML COLT
NEW YORK CITY. Left side of frame stamped: COLT'S / PATENT. U M
stamped to right side of barrel lug and butt. Brass round
triggerguard and backstrap. Rectangular cylinder stop slots.
One-piece walnut grip. A and X inspector's mark on triggerguard.
According to research and records, they were in production from
1851-1861 and approximately 10,500 made. This particular example
was manufactured in 1855. An honest example of the most encountered
model and variation.
Condition: Good. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina with normal
signs of age, handling wear and pitting. Moderate isolated pitting
to muzzle area. Cylinder has overstamp [visible 4 under 14812
serial]. Heavy dings and bruising to wood, with some wood loss at
corners. Action good. Pitted bore.
