Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Bridgeport Rig.

Serial no. 57755, .45 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel with 1-line Hartford address. Ejector rod with donut tip. Black powder frame. 3-line patent mark to left side of frame. 3/4-inch high Bridgeport hammer-screw also on left side of frame. Varnished, one-piece walnut grips. Sold together with 44-inch leather belt (2-inches wide) with roller buckle and metal plate with slotted spring steel tab both retained by 6 steel rivets. Top of plate is marked: L.S. FLATAU. / PATENTED JAN. 17, 1882. This patent mark is not gang-stamped but struck, unevenly with individual dies for each character. Approximately 12-inches from buckle, the belt has been marked: EXPERIMENTAL #1/LOUIS S. FLATAU / SHERIFF / CAMP COUNTY TEXAS.

Condition: Good to very good as assembled and re-numbered. Serial numbers are likely restamped. Frame and cylinder appear to have been ground before restamping. Metal surfaces with signs of cleaning and now with mostly smooth gray-brown patina with scattered patches of fine pitting at muzzle and frame. Barrel with patches of heavy pitting on both side halfway down, toolmarks near breech. Ejector rod housing blued on protected surface. Appears to be a replacement. Traces of nickel observed on hammer and cylinder pin. Cylinder's serial number stamping is in a cleaned and polished area approximately 1/2-inch square. Frame and butt screws are likely replacements. Interior channel of grips with paper shim. Action good. Bridgeport plate markings do not match known originals. Leather is very good. Belt stamp is spurious. Belt with traces of other stitches and mounting holes.
