    Description

    Colt Model 1861 Navy Cartridge Conversion Single Action Revolver. Serial no. 1139 [barrel,frame,triggerguard,butt], .38 centerfire caliber, 4 11/16-inch round barrel with address reading: Col Saml Colt New York U.S. America. Small blade front sight. Brass triggerguard and backstrap. Left side of frame marked Colt's Patent. Left side of triggerguard marked .36 CAL. Cylinder arbor marked 1638. Crudely carved hardwood grips with period wood screw. Condition: Fair as altered. Barrel has been shortened. Metal now a smooth gray-brown patina with numerous nicks, scratches and dents. Front sight a possible replacement. Ejector rod housing tip and screw are replacements. Ejector rod inoperable. Wedge a handmade replacement and screw is absent. Loading gate absent. Firing pin a period replacement. Action needs adjustment, will not stop at half cock.
