    Cased Presentation Gustav Young Engraved Colt Model Model 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver Presented to Colonel E. R. Eckley By the Officers of the 26th Regiment, Ohio Infantry. Serial no. 91777, .36 caliber, 7 1/2-inch octagonal barrel. Blued finish. Case-hardened hammer, lever and frame. Gustav Young scroll-engraved lever, barrel lug, frame, hammer and triggerguard assembly. Cylinder with standard naval scene. Backstrap presentation inscribed: Presented to/Col. E.R. Eckley/ by the Officers of the 26th Reg't. Silver-plated brass gripstrap and triggerguard assembly. Letter I stamped under serial number, denoting factory one-piece ivory grips. Contained in original purple velvet-lined partitioned factory walnut case, together with brass Colt's Patent "Stand of Flags and Cannons", powder flask with spring-loaded charger; two-cavity blued Colt's Patent bullet mold with integral sprue cutter; 250 capacity Eley cap tin with green label and paper wrap; extra nipples; lead ball supply and case key. Condition: Revolver: Very good. Retaining approximately 30-40% finish, primarily on the triggerguard assembly, the remainder showing a rich brown age patina with blue remaining around wedge and in protected areas. Grips excellent with light wear and patina. Action crisp. Accoutrements are all good to excellent with light age wear and patina overall. Case showing considerably fading to lining with spots of discoloration present in bottom of case. Exterior of case with light wear and minor blemishes.

    According to research, Ephraim R. Eckley served in the 26th Regiment of Ohio Infantry, reached the rank of Lt. Colonel and practiced law after the Civil War. The 26th Ohio Infantry, nicknamed the "Groundhog Regiment", was organized at Camp Chase in Columbus, Ohio beginning June 8, 1861 and mustered in for three years service on July 24, 1861. The unit was mustered out of service at Victoria, Texas on October 21, 1865. Eckley saw extensive action including the battles of Shiloh; Corinth, Perryville, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Atlanta Campaign, Resaca, Kennesaw Mountain, Peachtree Creek, Siege of Atlanta, Jonesboro, Second Battle of Franklin and the Battle of Nashville. The regiment lost a total of 238 men during service; 6 officers and 116 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded, 116 enlisted men died of disease.
