Serial no. C232556, .45 caliber, 5-inch barrel. Silver-plated finish. Deep American scroll engraving throughout gun. Extra coverage includes safety catch, slide stop and bottom of magazine. Right side of slide enclosed in a banner and marked COLT / AUTOMATIC / CALIBRE .45. Smooth bone grips with Texas longhorns on both sides. Together with a Colt Factory letter confirming original configuration when shipped in 1947. Gun shipped in Blue finish to New York City. Also included is correspondence dated 2007 from current consignor to Jink Howard, noted Cole Agee author. In the letter, Jink Howard replies, "After reviewing the photos and carefully comparing them to firearms engraved by Cole Agee, I strongly believe that this pistol bears his engraving." The letter also mentions nickel-plated, we believe this is due to the gun being silver-plated recently. The gun is sold with the above mentioned literature, Appraisal letter from JT's Gun Appraisal Co. valuing the gun at $45,000 in 2010 and the book Cole Agee, Texas Engraver Compiled and signed by Jink Howard.
Condition: Fine to excellent as refinished at time of engraving. Retaining approximately 95-96% of the recent silver-plating. Fine scratches and light wear from handling. Grips are later replacements with slight imperfections. Action crisp. Bore ok, moderate wear.
