Extraordinary German Police Mauser Banner Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol With Matching Magazine and Holster. Serial no. 2721Y, 9mm caliber, 4-inch barrel. Blued finish. Checkered wooden grip panels. All visible numbers matching. Large Mauser banner on the toggle and dated 1942 on the receiver. Mauser commercial contract eagle/N on left side of receiver. Eagle/L Mauser Banner police marking on the right side of receiver. Sear safety over the side plate. Haenel Schmeisser full logo blued magazine with pinned aluminum base, numbered to the pistol and with a 3 stamped on the base. Sold with a brown leather police holster maker marked and dated 1939. The reverse is stamped with an eagle and swastika as well as stamped with the number of the pistol. Complete with loading tool. Consigner indicates that her father, a veteran of the Pacific War, traded another soldier for this police rig after he returned home. The veteran indicated that the finder discovered the rig hanging on a nail in a closet in Berlin.
Condition: Excellent. Retaining 90-95% of the late war finish, the remainder only trivial holster wear to the high spots. The action is crisp and the bore bright. The holster is scuffed along the edges and flap and the leather closure strap and buckle are lacking. Stitching at seam has noticeable tear. A beautiful rig, untouched since the Second World War.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
