Actual Gun Used to Illustrate the 6th Edition of Flayderman's Guide.

Scarce J. Caswell Underhammer Single Shot Pistol.

Unserialized, .18 caliber, 2-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front and rear sights. Each side of barrel marked: J. CASWELL. Concealed trigger, opens when hammer is cocked. Smooth walnut one-piece grip with brass heart to left side, above hammer.
Note: It is believed that the design of the mechanism earned Caswell one of the earliest patents in the U.S., back in 1828, see Flayderman's Guide [7E-012.5]. Together with photocopy of N. Flayderman & Co. receipt on the purchase of this pistol and other items. Also included is another photocopy of N. Flayderman & Co. Inc note stating to Palazzo "Item #2898 IS, IN FACT, THE PISTOL THAT WAS USED TO ILLUSTRATE THE 6TH EDITION OF FLAYDERMAN'S GUIDE, [signed NORM FLAYDERMAN].

Condition: Good. Overall showing honest age and handling wear, with some patches of pitting. Scattered dings and scuffs present to wood. Action needs adjustment.
