Two Superb Quality Saw Handle Percussion Pistols by Nelson Lewis Troy, New York C. 1850 The first, 14" overall with 8" .45 caliber octagon barrel with sharp bore. Blued barrel with white breech and tang finely engraved, signed on top flat "N. Lewis Troy". Barrel 40% blue turning to a plum color. Lock marked "Warren & Steele Albany" with open scroll engraving, gray with minor dark staining, hammer with matching engraving, terminating with a dolphin head. Does not hold at full cock, easily repaired. Walnut stock excellent with minor age hairlines forward of the lock and at the lock screw, not affecting soundness. Side plate terminates in a 2" belt hook. Mounted with German silver, the trigger guard exhibiting a beautiful hairline pinned period repair. Complete with original ram rod. The second, a 'pistol carbine', with detachable open frame wood shoulder stock, measures 43" overall, pistol with a 24 3/4" .50 caliber octagon barrel with smooth bore. Barrel a mix of gray with areas of dark staining, and minor surface rust, easily cleaned, the breech and tang with engraving matching the first pistol. Lock and hammer are also identical. German silver trigger guard with a hairline pinned period repair, beautifully done. Large German silver wedge escutcheons and hooded front sight. Walnut stock with break on the grip at the aperture for the shoulder stock, nicely repaired during the period with inlaid brass and German silver panels. Grip bored to accept detachable stock, hole is worn, consequently the stock fits loosely. Detachable shoulder stock carved from one piece of walnut now cracked with small old nail repairs. Both guns with matching German silver ring ferrules at the bottom of the butts with inset German silver oval panels on the underside. A most interesting and unusual set of pistols from one of New York's premier gun makers of the period.

    Estimate: $7,500 - up.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
