DescriptionMid-19th Century Etched German Percussion Pistol by Friedlein.
Approximately .69 caliber, 6-inch octagonal barrel marked: FRIEDLEIN A. FURSTNEAU (Friedlein is listed as a gun maker in Furstneau, Saxony c 1845) . Breech with fine gold wire inlay. Hammer nicely scroll-engraved. Lock with dog and game bird scene bordered with floral engraving. Brass back plate with engraved borders marked with etching: 445-01-0707. Figured hardwood stock with later applied crude checkering. Engraved brass furniture. Vacant silver shield escutcheon. Brass-tipped ram rod.
Condition: Very good. Front sight now even with barrel flat. Nice smooth brown patina to steel with some signs of having been lightly cleaned. Brass furniture fine as cleaned. Stock is fine and showing scattered dents and minor repairs. Action good.
