Late 18th Century Silver Mounted British Officer's Flintlock Holster Pistol. 10" iron patent breech .58 caliber smoothbore octagonal barrel bearing two proof marks, a notched rear sight, and tiny half round front sight on silver base. The gun is 16" overall. The single screw iron lock with reinforced pan is engraved "Gill" in script. Two keys secure the barrel to the walnut stock. The stock is configured with a flattened finely checkered wrist/grip and a small area of relief fan carving behind the barrel tang. Both ramrod pipes are silver, as is the lock screw washer, the vacant oval wrist escutcheon and nicely engraved trigger guard with flame like finial. There are four touchmarks on the trigger guard, one being an anchor and another the letter "K" in a cartouche that is correct for Birmingham 1782-83. There is a rather large brass bushing at the touch hole but the gun is unquestionably in its original flintlock configuration. The ramrod appears to be original. Very pretty gun with wood showing just very light wear and nice smooth dark patina on the iron surfaces. The silver appears to have been cleaned at some point in the past but has now acquired a pleasant light patina.
