    Description

Large Brass Mounted British Flintlock Holster Pistol C. 1800 with Military Markings. 15" overall with round, .68 caliber smoothbore iron barrel just over 9", exhibiting two proof marks at rear. Flat lock plate, with reinforced pan and roller frizzen, marked "Richardson". Brass mounts include trigger guard with acorn finial, ramrod pipes, butt cap, full side plate and oval wrist escutcheon engraved "JR / 4 / Troop" providing possible identification of a specific military unit of the Napoleonic period. Nicely figured walnut stock and horn capped ramrod with original iron worm. Gun overall very nice just showing some honest wear and use with some minor scattered dents, scratches, and a 1 1/2" hairline on the front right of forestock with tiny chip above it. Generally with very nice dark smooth patina, with the lock and hammer possibly lightly hand cleaned. Very nice pistol with the added interest of military ID.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
