Large American Flintlock Holster, Very Late 18th, Early 19th Century by Constable. 16" overall, with 10", octagon to round, .62 caliber smoothbore iron barrel. The barrel retains most of the original browned finish, with three British proofs. "Philadelphia" engraved on the top barrel flat, lock with slight 'banana' curve marked "Constable" (well known Philadelphia maker and retailer). Lock with goose neck hammer, brass trigger guard, single brass ramrod pipe, brass washers under heads of lock screws. Walnut stock with bag shaped grip, original wooden ramrod with brass cap. The gun overall in exceptional untouched condition, overall with dark untouched patina. Two hairlines in wrist, with two very old, and very small, possibly filled areas at the front of one of the cracks and at the left of the trigger guard, detracts nothing. A very rare American flintlock pistol in most desirable condition.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
