Iron Mounted British Original Flintlock Officer's Holster Pistol, Circa 1785. 10" octagonal .62 caliber iron smoothbore barrel with a bead front sight and bearing the following markings: "H. W. MORTIMER, LONDON..../GUN MAKER TO HIS MAJESTY...." The gun has a flat lockplate with a reinforced pan and sliding safety with the marking "H. W. MORTIMER." Two barrel keys hold the patent breech barrel to the walnut stock, and a single screw secures the lock. All mounts are iron and the gun has a rounded butt with checkering and punched dots for a secure grip. The engraved trigger guard, lock and hammer have been cleaned bright with light patina remaining on the barrel and ramrod pipes. Gun overall shows minor wear but excellent. There is a very thin, really negligible sliver missing from the left forend. Retains the original ramrod with iron worm. Nice gun.
