Great American Curly Maple Stocked Late 18th Century Flintlock Pistol. Although unsigned in the conventional sense, the gun bears a striking resemblance to a handful of other pistols known to exist, that are the work of vaunted Bucks County Penna. gunsmith Andrew Verner. 12 1/4" overall with 7 1/4" half round brass .50 caliber smoothbore barrel. Barrel bears the touchmark "W. H. O." on the left flat above side plate. Brass blade front sight with engraving around the base, nicely engraved brass side plate and trigger guard. Brass entry pipe, copper front pipe, shaped sheet copper butt covering held in place by tiny brass pins. The unmarked flat faced lock and hammer, with reinforced pan, exhibits what is, doubtless, a small maker's cartouche inside. retains what appears to be the original wooden ramrod. About perfect untouched overall condition, the stock exhibiting strong curl and rich patina. There is certainly the strong possibility that the sheet copper butt cap and front ramrod pipes are period replacements. A really wonderful Pennsylvania flintlock pistol.
