Fine Quality And Condition British Single Shot Percussion Belt Pistol, C. 1840 Engraved brass frame, 4" .50 caliber smoothbore octagonal iron barrel, the gun being 8 5/8" overall. Small German silver blade front sight and brass notched sight at the rear, with a well made brass housing holding a captive ramrod below the barrel. Two proof marks on the left side, one on the barrel, the other near the front of the brass frame. The maker's name "STEVENS / HOLBORN / LONDON" is engraved on the top of the frame with a vacant oval escutcheon on the wrist. There is engraving on the iron trigger guard and on the lid of the iron cap box at the butt. A nicely made iron belt hook is secured to the left side of the frame by two screws. Mechanically crisp with attractive smooth dark patina overall. Crisp engraving. A very pleasant and attractive gun overall.
