Description

Fine American Flintlock Secondary Martial Pistol. 16" overall, unmarked 10" iron barrel with tiny brass front sight, .57 caliber smoothbore. Flat iron lock plate marked "J*Henry / Philada" in two lines. Lock utilizes reinforced pan and reinforced cock. Fine walnut stock with bag shaped grip and the number "30" neatly carved behind the lock bolt plate. Gun in excellent overall condition with metal exhibiting dark untouched patina. Overall the gun just shows some honest use, very nice. There is a small period repair to a triangular piece of wood behind the rear lock screw, a tiny sliver on the left forend a minor hairline on the right forend and a chip in the lock mortise under the frizzen, all very minor. One of the finer examples of the handful of these rare guns known to exist.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
