Extensively Decorated Pair of Turkish Walklate Flintlock Pistols.

Unserialized, approximately .64 smoothbore calibers, 13-inch octagonal and round damascus barrels with decorative gilt accents at breech, barrel transition and muzzle. English locks marked: WALKLATE [operating in London from 1813 to 1815]. Smooth walnut stocks with elaborate silver scroll inlays throughout and [7] coral stone accents. Silver work hallmarked on the left side of stock above the forward lock plate screw. Hammers are engraved with Turkish crescent moon and stars. Triggerguard and butt with floral designs accented in gilt. One original horn and one wooden [replacement] ramrod. Truly breathtaking pair with tremendous work and detail. Overall length of both pistols is approximately 20 1/2-inches. According to consignor notes, this pair of flintlock pistols were bought in an Old Bazaar in Tehran, Iran around 1951 by his father in law, Dr. Michael J. Hansinger. At the request of the current consignor, these pistols were taken into Jackson Arms in 1987 to get new flints, around the same time, Paul F. Putty of Jackson Arms completed an appraisal of them.
