Early 19th C. French Original Flintlock Officer's Pistol Very Similar To Arsenal Made Specimens The briefly octagonal, then round, iron barrel is .68 caliber smoothbore and measures 7 3/16" showing every indication that this is the original length. Small blade front sight at the muzzle, plus a groove at the back of the barrel continuing through the tang and a small notched sight at the rear. Two shaped iron washers are beneath the heads of the lock screws, and a domed oval iron butt cap is below the finely checkered wrist. The lock is iron with a forward slanting brass pan (again, very similar to French arsenal made officers' pistols), and retains the vestige of a marking. The original iron ramrod enters through through a round iron cap at the front of the stock. The trigger guard is missing, however, the inlet is undamaged and it should be a very viable project for a competent restorer to replace the guard. Gun shows very minor overall wear, with crisp checkering, excellent wood, metal with generally smooth gray patina and just a few touches of very light pitting. Overall a very nice a readily restorable gun.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
