Crisp Pair of Iron Mounted Patent Breech British Officer's Original Flintlock Pistols, Circa 1780. Octagonal 10" .65 caliber smooth bore barrels, with four proof marks at the rear of each, the word "LONDON" engraved 3" forward of the breech with small blade front sights. "TWIGG" is engraved on the flat lockplates, and the locks are fitted with reinforced pans and roller frizzens and remain in original flintlock configuration. Two barrel keys secure the barrels to the nicely figured stocks that appear to be mahogany. The iron mounts consist of the decoratively engraved trigger guard with pineapple finial, two ramrod pipes, and two engraved washers under the engraved lock screw heads. The barrel tang is also engraved. The guns are overall smooth and clean, very sharp, with vestiges of what appears to be an old brown damascene finish on the barrels. There is just one minor wood repair, barely perceptible, which is a 3/4" piece on the right side of the fore stock above the entry pipe on one gun, really detracts nothing. A very pretty pair of English flintlock officer's pistols.
