    Cased Historic Colt Model 1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver Inscribed to J.L Miller, 12th Regiment, South Carolina Volunteer Infantry, Killed in Action at Wilderness, sold together with Provenance. Serial no. 67096, .31 caliber, 6-inch octagonal barrel with two-line New York address. Blued finish. Case-hardened lever, hammer and frame. Nickel-plated triggerguard and gripstrap assembly. Backstrap inscribed: [Colonel] J.L. Miller 12th Regt.S.C.V.I. / from his friends. Varnished walnut grips. Contained in original burgundy velvet lined partitioned walnut case, together with following accessories: 1) Colt's Patent two-cavity bullet mold. 2) small eagle pattern pistol powder flask. 3) large Eley cap tin with blue label. 4) small pewter oiler. 5) "L" pattern nipple wrench. 6) spare parts, nipples and key to case. 7) conical bullet supply. Sold together with accompanying binder of provenance containing over 70 photostatic copies of documents related to Miller. The 12th South Carolina Infantry regiment completed its organization in July 1861 at Lightwoodknot Springs, near Columbia, South Carolina. It was assigned to General Gregg's and McGowan's Brigade. The 12th South Carolina saw duty in many battles including; Seven Days, Gaines Mill, Fredericksburg, Second Manassas, Sharpsburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Spotsylvania and Cold Harbor. Miller was severely wounded in the battle of the Wilderness, dying on May 6, 1864, Condition: Excellent. Retaining approximately 80-85% finish with wear to cylinder and relief edges. Traces of silvered and faded case-hardening present. Backstrap with light wear present. Grips excellent. Action crisp. Bore bright.
