    C. 1800 Brass Mounted British Flintlock Holster Pistol 14" overall, with octagonal 8 5/8", .56 caliber smoothbore brass barrel. Barrel with two British proofs, and "London" on top near the breech, small blade type front sight with 'spider' base. Brass mounts include trigger guard, octagonal ramrod pipes, washers under lock screw heads, shield shaped wrist escutcheon with exquisitely engraved crest, probably regimental, and cap on ramrod pipe. Lock with sliding safety marked Ketland & Co., also in brass, with reinforced brass pan. Walnut stock with flat sided bag shaped grip. Excellent overall condition, just showing some minor honest wear. Lock surface has been lightly cleaned with the external lock parts rather dark in contrast, but completely original. A beautiful British pistol with the added interest of the, doubtless identifiable, engraved crest on the wrist escutcheon.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
