British Flintlock Holster Pistol C. 1770. 13 3/4" overall, with 8 3/16", round, iron .62 caliber smoothbore barrel. Barrel exhibits three proof marks and marked "Griffin & Tow * London" on top near breech. Very fancy barrel tang with engraved/chiseled shell design. Lock with engraved border, also marked "Griffin / & Tow". Iron washers under lock screw heads, iron trigger guard and ramrod pipes with iron cap on ramrod. Unmarked grotesque silver mask on butt, elaborate unengraved silver wrist escutcheon. Walnut stock with shell pattern carving around the barrel tang. Excellent overall condition just showing some honest wear with some minor scattered areas of extremely fine pitting which detract little, along with some scattered staining. An exceptional British flintlock holster pistol from the period of the American Revolution.
