Brass Mounted British Original Flintlock Officer's Holster Pistol, Circa 1770. Stepped 9 1/4" .65 caliber smoothbore iron barrel bearing two proof marks and "LONDON" engraved in caps. The gun is 15 1/2" overall. Round faced lock engraved with the name "BROOKE" and a matching round faced hammer. The brass mounts include two ramrod pipes, an open work side plate, engraved trigger guard, vacant shield shaped wrist escutcheon with top and bottom finials, and a butt cap with side straps and mask in relief at the bottom. The stock is walnut with an area of relief fan shaped carving behind the barrel tang. Smooth gray patina with some minor staining on the metal. Wood with rich glowing patina, just a small chip forward of the lock and a minor 2" line crack on the left forestock with no loss, along with a very light, really negligible, crack between the rear ramrod pipe and the front of the trigger guard. A crisp gun which very possibly saw American Revolutionary War service.
