About Mint Reuthe's Patent Percussion Animal Trap Gun, The Finest We've Ever Seen. Standard form with 7" iron swivel rod for attachment. 4" double barrel configuration with center 4 1/2" barrel mounting the two pronged arrow. Overall retains 95% of the original black lacquer paint with gilt highlights on the cast markings on the top "Hartford, Conn / F. Reuthe's Patent / May 12" 1857". The mechanism on the underside also perfect retaining all of the original bright blue on the screw which attaches the hammers to the frame. Iron hook generally smooth with dark patina and just a few spots of light surface rust. Bores perfect as is the arrow, also with smooth dark patina. Both percussion barrels in .28 caliber. A really choice example of this novel and to a degree enigmatic weapon, with total quantities of production estimated at only several hundred.
