    18th Century Spanish Miquelet Pistol Marked Queiro.
    Approximately .70 caliber, 8 1/2-inch part round part octagonal barrel marked B? / A? near breech along with proofmarks. Lockplate marked QUEIRO?. Molded bands and engraving at midpoint. Walnut stock with engraved floral design near rear tang with iron triggerguard and belt hook. Pommel cap engraved and decorated with a flower design into the wood. Miquelet lock with chiseled work throughout including frizzen, main spring and hammer ring. Overall length: 15 inches. Quero, Mathias is listed as being a gunmaker in Malaga, Spain C. 1732. See pages 96 and 100 in Spanish Guns and Pistols by W. Keith Neal. Although the lock appears to have an extra "I", we believe this gun to be by Quero.

    Condition: Good to very good with age wear. Metal, showing a grey patina and scattered pitting overall. Wood with wear and some small cracks and repairs. Some losses around lock. Ramrod possible replacement. Touch hole appears untouched, gold-plating present. Action good, bore with some pitting but clear.
