    Description

1766 Variant Of The French Model 1763 Flintlock Pistol. Rounded lock face. The 9" iron round barrel, .70 bore, has the number "78" on the side opposite the touch hole presumably representing the date of manufacture, 1778. The gun is brass mounted with a walnut stock and iron ramrod, with spring holding the barrel band in place. There is a marking on the barrel band, and the lock has a small crown over "IR" plus the name of the armory. The wood has only modest wear and nice patina. Both the barrel and lockplate appear to have been chemically cleaned and now exhibit moderate pitting overall. The gun is in original flintlock configuration and the mechanism works well.
