    George Armstrong Custer: National Arms Co. Derringer owned by Custer. Derringer owned by George Armstrong Custer. The pistol descended through the Custer family to his great great grand nephew Lt. Colonel Marvin Brice Custer. With the derringer comes a copy of a letter dated February 20, 1961 from Marvin Custer to James S. Hutchins mentioning the pistol as well as a newspaper article picturing Colonel Custer holding the derringer. He goes on to write that the "This collection consists of a saddle, a pair of spurs, a derringer pistol, neckerchief, an oil painting, and a horseshoe. These items have been handed down in the Custer family for a number of years. The saddle and spurs were given to my grandfather, Marvin S. Custer, from his father Brice W. Custer in 1889. The pistol, neckerchief, oil painting, and horseshoe were presented to my father, George A. Custer, II, from Elizabeth Custer, wife of General Custer, during a visit to New York in 1923".

    Serial no. 2443, .41 rimfire caliber, 2 1/4-inch barrel with fixed front sight. Top of barrel marked: NATIONAL ARMS CO. BROOKLYN N.Y. Scroll engraved barrel and frame. Case-hardened hammer and spur trigger. Contained in wood display case with glass lid.

    Condition: Very good. Overall showing scattered signs of handling wear and patches of pitting. Action crisp. Moderately pitted bore. The Michael Ward Collection of Western Americana
