Fabulous Early Colt Single Action Army, Delivered to B. Kittridge in Cincinnati in 1876. Serial number 22680, all numbers matching. 7½" barrel. Accompanied by Colt factory letter.

This was one of fifty guns delivered to the well-known Cincinnati firm in Feb. 1876. Per the Directory of American Military Goods Dealers and Makers (p. 151), during the Civil War the company became established as "...the cream of the gun, pistol etc. trade in this market (Cincinnati). " An 1856-57 lawsuit between the two parties established a long-standing relationship between Kittridge and Colt, and in 1877 they were advertised as "agents for Colt Arms Co. and Offered Colt Thunderer pistol in ANJ." (p. 151)

The present example was delivered with a blue finish, but has been silver-plated and then elaborately engraved in great detail overall. It retains 99% of the finish, and gives no indication of having been fired since. Indeed, there is no indication that the gun was even fired at all, and it seems likely that the work was accomplished by Kittridge. The striking stag horn grips do not appear modern, but are almost certainly a later addition. For the collector who would like to own just one really sweet Colt single action, it is hard to imagine a more appealing example.
