Exceptional Boxed Colt Model 1878 Etched Panel Frontier Six-Shooter Double Action Revolver together with Factory Letter. Serial no. 6258, .44-40 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel with single-line Hartford address and etched panel reading: Colt Frontier Six-Shooter. Nickel-plated finish. Fire-blued screws and trigger. Bird's head hard rubber factory grips with Rampant Colt logo at top. Lanyard ring. Contained in rare oxblood factory "picture box" bearing an image of right side of revolver, Rampant Colt logo, cartridge and red descriptive text reading: Colt's Army/Double Action Pistol./Frontier .44 calibre. 7 1/2 inch Barrel./The Colt Patent Fire Arms Company,/Hartford, Conn. End of box with label reading: 7 1/2 Colt's Frontier D.A. Pistol/Nickel Rubber. Sold together with Colt factory letter, confirming configuration and noting shipment to Schoverling, Daly and Gales, New York, New York on August 9, 1881, in a shipment of 3 guns. One of the finest examples of this revolver in existence. Condition: Near mint, with only minor line scratches around right side hammer screw. Fire-blued elements retain bright transparent blue finish. Right grip with minor sun fading. Action tight and crisp. Box with light wear, scuffs and minor closed perforations to lid.
