Diminutive Third Model Colt Derringer with Original Beaded Leather Belt and Holster. Just 18.5" in length, the belt would have been worn around a woman's thigh under her skirt. They were favored by ladies of ill-repute who had to deal with some very rough characters in the Old West, and so they are often termed "prostitute's rigs." The 4.75" .41 caliber gun, marked "Colt," first appeared in 1870 and is in good condition and in working order. The belt and holster are in excellent shape, with what appears to be a later replacement buckle.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
