Description

A Spectacular Western-style Smith & Wesson .44 Caliber "S & W Special Ctg". ** Gun Control Act Requirements Apply**
Custom hand-carved mother of pearl grips with solid gold accents: On one side is the high-relief head of a Texas longhorn, on the other a gold five-pointed star and scroll-shaped plaque inscribed with initials "C.W.G." purportedly belonging to Port Arthur chief of police Claude W. Goldsmith. Serial number 57966.

The gun seems to have been fired only a very few times. Retains 99% of original nickel, although there is evidence of a trace of fine rust under the nickel in a couple of places. Accompanied by a leather gun belt and holster, probably not original to the gun. From the Estate of John R. Eckel, Sr. For more information on this estate, please view the article "An Antique Love Story".

Included with the lot is a copy of a letter from a Groves, Texas, gun shop stating that this gun came from the estate of Claude W. Goldsmith and that he was Chief of Police in Port Arthur, Texas, from 1944-1949.

Note: This firearm falls under the Federal Gun Control Act. Please see the information in the back of the catalog for Federal and State regulations for Buyers to make sure you can bid on this lot.
