7th Cavalry: A Rare Colt with Serial Number Falling in the 7th Cavalry Range. A three-page letter from leading expert John Kopec details the complicated history of this gun. Its original serial number, 5641, indicates that it was part of Lot Six (serial numbers 5505-6516), one of the principal lots from which the 7th Cavalry received their initial issue of these revolvers in July 1874. It was then in its original configuration with 7½" barrel. However, it was recalled by the Army in 1893 and ultimately refurbished with mixed serial numbers as an artillery model with 5½" barrel for use in the Spanish American War. It was then returned to Colt again for refurbishing in 1901 for use in the Philippines. The accompanying Colt factory letter refers to the gun's final issue by Colt at that time. John Kopec's detailed analysis is available on our website, and should be read carefully.Condition is very good overall. Tight action, light surface pitting on cylinder, barrel, and receiver. Pleasant medium gray color, walnut grips which appear to be original. The gun is accompanied by a current period holster, in fair condition with one piece separated from the end of the flap but present.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.View More Testimonials
