    4-Digit 7th Cavalry Custer U.S. Colt Single Action Army Revolver with US Leather Holster. Serial no. 5173 [frame, triggerguard, cylinder and butt], .45 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front blade sight and frame notch rear sight. Blued finish. Top of barrel marked: - COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A. -. Two-line, two-date patent and U.S. stamped to left side of frame. Ainsworth "A" inspector mark to cylinder, triggerguard and backstrap. "P" stamped to base of barrel and cylinder. Smooth walnut one-piece grip. Contained in US marked leather holster. Manufactured in 1874. The serial number falls in the range of Custer's 7th Cavalry troops. Accompanied by a copy of a detailed John A. Kopec letter dated May 3, 1999.

    Condition: Very good. Retaining traces of finish around ejector housing, the balance primarily a dark grey patina with scattered signs of handling wear, age and patches of pitting. Tracking line to cylinder. Dings and scuffs present to wood, mainly to base of grip. Action good. Moderately pitted bore. Leather displaying noticeable cracking and some discoloring.
