World's Columbian Exposition: Four Different Admission Ticket Envelopes. These envelopes once contained admission tickets from the Caxton Company. One noted that "All remaining World's Fair Souvenir Tickets have been sold, and the Caxton Company controls the same." Considering advertising offered ticket sets for a quarter or singles at a dime, Caxton must have purchased a tidy box full for a flat amount that was fractions of a penny per ticket. Another envelope reads "Historical Souvenir, Genuine Admission Tickets, etc." touting William Hale Thompson's run for mayor of an unnamed city. Another calls the contents of the envelope Souvenir Tickets bearing the vignettes of "Columbus, Indian, Washington and Lincoln" for quite a price when others were 10-25 cents, $2.00, likely soon after the fair's closing. The fourth envelope, approximately the same size, plain white, has pencil notations on it regarding World's Fair Tickets 1893 and imprinted in small type on the other side, it reads "This envelope contains Twelve Admission Coupons to the World's Columbian Exposition," and was clearly for use at the time of the fair! It further reads "Any remaining unused, which the holder desires redeemed, must be presented to Carol Hutchins, Agent, at the Raymond and Whitcomb Grand, before the passenger leaves Chicago!" From the collection of Norm Bolotin.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
