World's Columbian Exposition: Stamps and Overprinted Tickets. This large and diverse collection of stamps and overprinted tickets displays advertising from both during and after the 1893 fair. This lot includes:
-Columbus entrance ticket, #47954, imprint on the reverse Billie Goodwin, Chicago manufacturers' outlet on Clark Street. Mint condition.
-Columbus entrance ticket with light stain marks otherwise near mint, #136205, imprint on reverse Café Wellington, Madison Street, Chicago.
-Washington ticket #53393 with overprint in purple on front, Columbian Chorus After 5PM May 23. Rare.
-Washington ticket. #229118A and reverse imprint of John Edwin Morse of Hadley Massachusetts, dealer in Civil War and Lincoln memorabilia. Mint condition.
-Moorish Palace Restaurant 25 cent Concession 13, Stand 3 ticket. Imprinted on reverse "compliments of the Washington Shirt Co." very rare if not unique. Probably given out during the fair as a bonus to those shopping with the company. Reverse was "washed" to remove the original design so the new stamp would show. Mint.
-Chicago Day Ticket (no stub attached) with a die impression embossed stamp like a notary imprint from Cook County and a facsimile signature of George Davis, Secretary General of the fair.
-Full Chicago Day ticket with stub attached and complete coverage on reverse and much of obverse with advertising for the German-American News Co.
From the collection of Norm Bolotin.
