    Description

World's Columbian Exposition: Clow Sanitary Company Pay Toilet Ticket. This a yellow ticket with a series letter "B", number 26005. These tickets were issued in different colors and in several series of letters, so that a group could be assembled that spelled "J A M E S B. C L O W." Long one of the most sought after tickets. The world's first pay toilets! There were "comfort" stations throughout the grounds that were free, but to experience the "notch above" from Clow would cost a nickel. Fairgoers bought these tickets in small books, hence the perforation on top and bottom of the Clow ticket. At the time of Doolin's book in 1980 it was not known that there were series spelling out Clow's name; "B" was unlisted in Doolin. From the collection of Norm Bolotin.
