World's Columbian Exposition: An Amazing Card from Globe Oil Company. This card features the Eiffel Tower of Chicago-the tower that was never built! The card was obviously created in 1891 or earlier. It features an elaborate illustration of the Columbus Tower, "to be built at Chicago for the World's Fair of 1893, height 1500 ft, cost $200,000." The tower was one idea tossed about as the WCE sought something to compete with the 1889 Paris spectacular, the Eiffel Tower. Ultimately, the hallmark of Chicago was the Ferris Wheel. This 2" x 6", two-sided card with a 5.5" depiction of the spectacular tower is the only one we have seen. Perhaps two or three of hundreds of books about the fair ever published an image of the planned, but never built, Columbian Tower. This piece was used by the Globe Oil Company as a pre-fair advertisement. Very rare. From the collection of Norm Bolotin.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
