Set of Six Original Pen-and-Ink Souvenir Cards From the 1901 Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. Three hand-colored 6" x 5" cards and three 4.25" x 3" cards, each signed by artist E. May Adams of New York City. The cards show two fanciful cats in formal wear making their way to the exposition. On heavy board stock. Excellent condition. The upbeat tone expressed on these cards would shortly give way to gloom born of tragedy: Buffalo's Pan-American Exposition became remembered as the site of President McKinley's assassination. On September 6, 1901 anarchist Leon Czolgosz shot McKinley twice as the president stood in a receiving line at the exposition's Temple of Music.
