Exceedingly Rare Columbian Exposition Pottery Crock In 1893, the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago brought an attendance of more than twenty-seven million, so it's not surprising that a potter in upstate New York started making souvenirs for that world's fair. The White Pottery in Utica, known by the 1870s as the Central New York Pottery, made a variety of stoneware mugs and other utilitarian objects commemorating the fair. More unusual was the small size crock they made. Here we offer this rarely seen crock manufactured by the company for the 1893 Columbian Exposition. Beautifully executed in form and nicely incised with the makers name, this crock, standing 4.75" tall and 6" in diameter, is in mint condition. There is little or no wear to the bottom and bold blue lettering stands out against the background of brown-gray. This is a highly collectible piece not only from a souvenir collectors standpoint but also having the interest of early crock collectors.
