    Description

X-15: 1960 Memorandum Regarding a Pilot's Comments on the Honeywell Adaptive Control System Simulator Evaluation Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Certified and Encapsulated by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty. Neil Armstrong's copy of a three page, 8.5" x 11", mimeographed memo from Forrest S. Petersen, dated September 28, 1960. It lists the details of the simulator profiles flown by him, his history as a pilot, and his detailed comments on the evaluation. A quick read through will tell you that he was not overly impressed and had a number of criticisms and suggestions for improvement. Petersen was assigned duties as Research Pilot in the X-15 program at the Dryden (now NASA Neil A. Armstrong) Flight Research Center at Edwards AFB. He made five flights in the X-15 and was the only active Navy pilot to do so. Included for reference with the lot is a reprint of a 1971 NASA Technical Note about this Adaptive Flight Control System (not from the Armstrong collection). An interesting look at the development of this system. Toning and lightly dampstained, overall very good. Each page sealed in a numbered archival sleeve. This lot will include Statements of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.
