    STS SPACE SHUTTLE

Space Shuttle Flown Silver Snoopy Award on Astronaut-Signed Certificate with Photos Signed by Gordon Cooper and Forrest McCartney. A 10mm x 13mm sterling silver pin of Charles Schulz's beloved Snoopy doing his happy dance in full spacesuit and helmet. The Silver Snoopy is a special award that is given by the astronaut corps through NASA's Manned Flight Awareness program in appreciation "...for professionalism, dedication, and outstanding support that greatly enhanced flight safety and mission success..." It is always presented in person at the recipient's workplace by an astronaut. In this case, Bill Shepherd (STS-27, STS-41, STS-52, Soyuz TM-31, Expedition 1, STS-102) presented this one to Sherman Holloway, a GSA employee, at Kennedy Space Center on October 23, 1987, and has signed and dated the 11" x 14" certificate to which it is attached. Included is a 10" x 8" color photo of the presentation. Also included in this lot are two great 8" x 10" color photos, both inscribed to "Wimpy" (Holloway's nickname): Astronaut Gordon Cooper and Kennedy Space Center Director Forrest McCartney. The certificate, bright and unfaded, has minor flaws at edges, easily matted out. Pin is excellent, photos are fine.
