    Description

    Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-1) Unflown MS67 NGC Silver Robbins Medallion, Serial Number 313, Directly from the Personal Collection of Astronaut Rusty Schweickart, with Signed Letter of Certification. This 39mm diameter sterling silver medal was one of 359 minted to commemorate the launch of Columbia on the first orbital test flight of the Space Shuttle. The obverse features the mission insignia, the shuttle, and its orbit around the Earth with the ship's name and the surnames of the crew. The reverse includes the names of the crewmembers and the engraved launch and landing dates. The serial number is on the rim along with the sterling and Robbins hallmarks. Tagged by NGC "Ex: Russell L. Schweickart". A Superb Gem Uncirculated example.

    Included with this lot is a Letter of Certification signed by Rusty Schweickart on his personal letterhead stating, in full: "I hereby certify that silver STS 1 Robbins Medallion, serial # 313, although unflown, is an authentic Robbins Medallion that I received through the Astronaut Flight Office. It has been in my personal collection since the STS 1 mission in 1981."
