DescriptionYuri Gagarin Launch Photo Album Book. This 12 "x 9" album consists of 116 images, mostly color photos, taken by the official Soviet Government photographer of Gagarin and the launch party. The images were taken before the launch in Baikonur between April 8 and 12. This photo album could not be exposed to the public for over thirty-five years since it named the location, events, and people involved in one of the most secret events of the millennium, man's first space flight. Most photos have never been published.
This unprecedented photo album contains mostly unpublished secret Soviet photographs of the selection of the first cosmonauts, their training, and the walk in Red Square of the final three (Gagarin, Titov, and Nebulov) before going to Baikonur. The album includes forty-three color pictures of secret pre-launch activities, launch preparations, the cosmonauts in uniform, and Gagarin in the capsule wearing his spacesuit. Also included are public post government photos of Vnukova's red carpet walk to meet Khrushchev, Kruschev, and Brezhsnev at an airport ceremony; a parade in Moscow; Lenin's tomb in Red Square; ceremonies featuring Gagarin receiving the first cosmonaut medal award decoration by Marshal Vershinin; and Gagarin signing the visitors book in Lenin's office in the Kremlin. Six photos are included of Star City after the flight. The images of Gagarin during his secret selection and training are especially significant, as are the never-before-published color photos (42) of the history of the Vostok program. Also of note is a B&W recovery photograph from the collection of Ivan Borisenko, the F.A.I. authenticator of U.S.S.R. flights. Fine condition.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.View More Testimonials
